One year after graduation I married Dick Czekai and we had five children; three sons and two daughters. Being a mother was the most important and satisfying job that I had in my life. When my children were all in school full time, I went back to school. I attended Lansing Community College and became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for eight years at Pleasant View in Corunna, Michigan. When I wanted to go back to school again, I switched to Owosso Memorial Health Care. At this time, I continued my education and received an Associate Degree in Applied Science and became a Registered Nurse. This gave me a great opportunity. During the next fifteen years I worked the Stress Center, Med-Surg and ICU. The last ten years I spent in Obstetrics, what a joy it was to welcome new babies. Now I’m retired, yet I still keep my hand in nursing. I have the honor of helping with a lady that is 106 years old. We have one important thing in common, we both have the first name Charlotte, and we both hate it. She is called Louise and I’m called Sheri. Louise played piano for silent films and when she is rambunctious; she will sit at the piano and play like mad.
In 1999 I married a wonderful man, Joe Lauro. Together we have seven children and nine grandchildren. There are eight granddaughters and one grandson. I can honestly say to my only grandson that he is my favorite grandson1
When Joe and I are not busy with the grandchildren, babysitting and going to band and sports events, we travel. We are planning our fifth cruise in the spring, and have taken many road trips throughout the United States.
For fun we enjoy playing cards, and I play Bridge, two or three times a week. If I don’t play that often Joe says “I go through card withdrawal.” I will spare you the details. Also Just to take up time, I have a small jewelry business called “Just Beadcause”. Using more of our retirement time Joe and I head a funeral dinner group at St Joseph Church and I’m on the Board of Review in Caladonia Township. Oops! There is little time for housework and cooking, I’ll dust the stove tomorrow, if I finish the book I’m reading. See you all in the fall.
